To whitewash out the connection between Islam and the actions of these officials is a gross act of self-denial and self-censorship. Punk for me, if it stands for anything is about being proud of who you are, true to yourself, but above all being ready to defend individuality over the rights of authority, whether that authority is religious or political. I consider myself an anti-fascist which means i must oppose fascism whether its coming from the left-wing, right wing, christianity or Islam.

I think its good to show solidarity by standing around playing music and all, but i dont feel there was enough emphasis put on the fact that this disgusting violation of human rights was committed by an Islamic government. The police get criticised, the mayor gets criticised, but they are just acting in accordance with Islamic law. Therefore Islam itself deserves criticism too- the non-Islamic world, together with those muslims that are brave enough to speak out need to hold Islam to account.
