  • very good video !!!!

  • @YCYC69 -- I'm actually working on posting a video response that gives a more in depth history of karate specifically, starting with Sakugawa to Matsumura, and Itosu, Mabuni, Shigeru Nakamura and Seikichi Odo. A 5 minute intro wasn't enough time to really get into this.

Regarding the comment about Greek Pankration -- that is an actual theory put forth by some historians. I thought it was interesting enough to mention. The more well known theory is the Bodhidarma story.

  • Why not re-edit with more facts finding, especially on the Chinese-Okinawan interaction? In Okinawan history they even have the names of those Chinese martial artist who travelled to Okinawa and started teaching skills that eventually localized and known as Okinawan kempo karate.

Then post a more reliable overview shooting after necessary homework are done?

  • I watch a series of this Kempo Karate training clips and i find them pretty good. But i can`t help laughing as I look at this clip...anyone who knows about a bit of worldwide martial art systems would laugh at this clip of how he said about Greek passing down fighting skills around the world...but i`m glad he admit his facts are not entirely correct.

  • You are correct in your statements about Okinawans and the Chinese having a cultural exchange. However, the Okinawan culture has its own unique flavor as well. Modern martial arts have borrowed so much from each other and evolved; some styles are all about competition, others are about self defense. It's really about finding an instructor who teaches what you want to focus on. These videos are not a good source of historical information, because they can't really tell the WHOLE story.

  • I'm the guy featured in these videos. The history portion is the part I was not happy with in the editing. What you are seeing is take 2 of an attempt to summarize 4000 years of martial history in 2 minutes. I meant no disrespect to anyone's art or nation.

Regarding the Pankration connection, what I meant to say was that it was merely one theory of many, including the India origin theory. I had the pleasure of meeting and training with Odo Sensei back in the 80s; a true gentleman and master.

  • Chuan Fa translates to "Fist Law" or "Ken Po", as stated in the video. A better translation would be "Fist Method", I admit.

"China Hand" was the original meaning of "Kara Te" and used the same characters for the current meaning of "Empty Hand".

  • Ch'uan Fa means "Chinese fist" not long fist, what a goon.

  • Hai, unfortunatly this guy is spewing what alot of people do. They don't understand that the modern incarnation of the Chinese boxing is very far removed from what it was and the Okinawans went to china and visa versa in a cultural exchange. In fact before the japanese invaded the ryukyu islands the okinawans would have considered china to be something of a father state (something like Austria to Germany) rather then how it is viewed now as just apart of japan.

  • wrong chinese martial arts came from india.
