When Cindy Mesaross pregnancy ran long, labor was induced and the baby suddenly began to bleed out from a rare and often undiagnosed condition. Fast action and an immediate blood transfusion saved baby Julia, and now she is a vibrant and vivacious toddler. This story highlights the emergency nature of many blood transfusion situations and why it is very often blood on the shelves that saves lives. This blood donation advocacy video was produced by In The Telling with educational funding from Johnson & Johnson.

  • I just got my third blood donation shirt! =D

  • On my last 2 donations I have done this kind of donation. I amO+. The first time I did it they asked would you like to do it and I said yes immediatly. The second time I did it I asked more about it and where the blood goes and they said Childrens Hospital and right then and there in my mind I made a commitment that I was going to this for as long as I could. I have 4 children and this in their honor. Please everyone if you can do this please do.

  • Oh wow. And i have O- blood type.

  • Makes it more real. I used to be afraid to donate, but then I started at least 10-15 years ago. I feel like I'm back in kindergarten - in a good way. They give you juice; you rest in a reclining chair and read a book while they take your blood; and then you get more juice and cookies and go home... and you may have saved a life!

  • Hello! I am a recruiter for United Blood Services and I can tell you first hand how difficult it is to get people to donate. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you blood donors out there!

  • This is inspiring. Thank you for the reminder!!! Donating blood is a breeze.

  • Inspiring story! I love the point about giving blood being a great way to be "selfless" This is the push I needed to donate blood!

  • Lovely and inspiring! Thank you for this.
