Subject of numerous adaptations, Charlotte Bronte's masterpiece Jane Eyre continues to have an enduring appeal even after two centuries since its publication. This particular adaptation has been grossly underestimated and overlooked. Starring Ciaran Hinds as the enigmatic Mr Rochester and academy award nominated Samantha Morton as the eponymous heroine Jane Eyre, this tv movie retains much of Charlotte's original and portrays characters as well as it can in one and a half hours. Samantha's portrayal of Jane has been considered the finest and most true to the Charlotte's Jane; and Ciaran's Rochester perfectly embodies the rugged charm and native pith that Charlotte writes of him in the novel.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, for this indeed is one of the better adaptations.

  • I totally respect Jane for having morals and sticking to them no matter how difficult it was to do so. If more people were like this, the world would be a much better place.

  • So mrs. Fairfax clearly knows about bertha yet when bertha set rochester's bed on fire she could not be told?

  • "Yes i saw her with my own eyes not three months ago."-Richard Mason

    "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"-Mr. Rochester

Possibly the best part of this subpar adaptation. This part cracks me up.

  • I really like this adaptation, but they took some SERIOUS artistic liberties with Rochester...

  • I really like Samantha Morton, but I kind of wish there had been a Gainsborough/Hinds production.

  • I'm sorry, but Ciaran Hinds just isn't right as Rochester. Frankly, this version of Rochester is something of a brute. Granted, Charlotte Bronte describes Rochester as temperamental and unpredictable but Hinds portrays him as someone who can be frighteningly volatile and even violent...not a man Jane could trust or respect. Hinds also played Rochester in a BBC radio dramatization, and while that portrayal was more faithful to the book, he still made Rochester far too hotheaded.

  • Alright. I gotta say, this is some serious emotional manipulation going on. I've seen this behavior in men in real life, and they are not the kind of men you ever want to get married to. I've read the book at least a dozen times and I know Rochester is supposed to be rough around the edges, but I never got the impression that he was full on abusive. But this version of Rochester makes me cringe.

  • He's acting like an abusive prick

  • I am just dieing a thousand deaths. That is RUPERTTTTT. Did not know that he is in it ... as St. John. Pfff ... he'll always be my Wentworth <3

  • Interesting twist, he guilt trips her cause she has morals. Don't know what to think of that.

  • dang i was born in the wrong time
