Just before the release of "Shinjuku Incident" at the Hong Kong International Film Festival the film's star, Jackie Chan, sits down with South China Morning Post film editor Clarence Tsui. He reveals his secret disappointment in Hollywood and his intention to take his acting career in a new direction.

The Hong Kong movie legend seems glad to be back in the Chinese movie industry fold. He admits that his roles in the "Rush Hour" franchise and films like "Shanghai Noon" played on the "Chinese cop" stereotype too much. His desire is to become an Asian "Robert De Niro" and be respected as an all-round actor, not just a kung fu character.

In this video, hear Jackie Chan's comments about the new release, triad society in Japan, Chinese immigrants and his thoughts on being typecast by Hollywood.

  • This unique realistic setting, Jackie Chan and Ken Watanabe in the same film just means that it will be gold. And by the way, Jackie Chan is not only a great actor, a comedian, a martial arts master and a philosopher, he can sing with a lot of heart as well.

  • Jackie Chan said it how it is... the movies out of america these days suck... and I wouldn't want to act in them either. This is one of the greatest films I've seen in a long time.
