OMG, that brought back memories. At the high school I work at ( I do maintenance) before 1997 when we changed all the old magnetic core ballasts to electronic, ballasts would short out like that from time to time. Direct short to ground. (277 V) Sometimes sparks coming out of the fixture. If it happened in a classroom during the day. It was usually easy to figure which room it was in by everyone running and screaming out into the hallway. I miss those days.

@clairesreelymovin, these are not SRS at all.
Those are mainly in the UK. These are high power
factor rapid start fixtures with 34 watt bulbs in
them in the US. :) Definitely a shorting in the light circuit,
or a bad ballast. Notice the 60 hertz sound...

ach thats nothing- thats a bad SRS ballast vibrating. Will probably sound like that continously when running, back in the early 80s when these resonant start lights were prolific in UK I hit to sit in school and suffer the noise of these things every day.

Probably a loose ballast. Sounds like a magnetic ballast is loose in one of the fixtures, and rattles everytime it starts.

Woah, I guess! Sounds like a shorting wire somewhere on the light circuit. Did you find out what was causing it? I think I would have left it on and find the smoke. LOL.
