In this 1960 recording, thirty-nine year old Belgian violinist Arthur Grumiaux (1921-1986) performs the Tchaikovsky violin concerto in D, Op. 35. Bernard Haitink conducts the Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam. This video was developed from a cassette that I purchased in the late 1970s, manufactured by Philips (Serial number 7311 067; corresponding LP, 6527 067). I had previously uploaded this recording in four separate segments.

Grumiaux recorded Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto for Philips three times: in October and November 1956 with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra; in May 1960 with Haitink and the Concertgebouw Orchestra; and in September 1975 with Krenz and the New Philharmonia.

Images from the cassette cover are interspersed throughout the video; images of the actual case that hold the cassette, as well as related images, are at the video close.

Movement 1: Allegro moderato
Movement 2: Canzonetta (Andante) (17:09)
Movement 3: Finale: Allegro vivacissimo (23:22)

  • I'm speechless... this is my very favorite in the hole world, and not everyone knows how to apreciate a master piece like this,

Sadly, in this days, music is nothing but a few acordes and empty of content.

LARGA VIDA A LAS PARTITURAS Y A LOS MÚSICOS REALES!

  • I have heard from someone who used to work at RCA that the reason this performance was never issued in the Living Stereo edition was because RCA LOST the master tape to one of the movements. It's too bad we need to rely on YouTube to hear one of the greatest performances of such a basic repertoire work. But kudos to David Hertzberg for sharing it with all of us.

  • La mejor versión que he escuchado de este concierto desde 1973 que la escuche por primera vez¡¡¡ y creo que no ha habido mejor versión.

  • Just one word: Beautiful!!!!!!!

  • hermoso

  • Let it be forgotten as a flow'r is forgotten,

Forgotten as a fire that once was singing gold.

Let it be forgotten forever and ever.

Time is a kind friend, he will make us old.

If anyone should ask say it was forgotten,

Long and long ago. As a flow'r, as a fire, as a hushed foot-fall

    In a long forgotten snow.

  • Thank you for your generously sharing the beautiful clip of Maestro Grumiaux ,, I wish our Earth produced more of his Kind ,,

  • Prenádherné. ďakujem za zážitok.
