A day at the Dreamland amusment park in Margate in 1989. Some nice footage of the rides at the park at the time including the Scenic Railway, Looping star, Enterprise, Troika, Melody swings and Apollo.

  • Absolutely fucking mint video. Total nostalgia. Those images were almost lost from my mind but here they are again! Beautiful. A true window to the past, my childhood.

Its completely unforgivable what JIMMY GODDEN did to dreamland. To see it now is fucking devastating and brings a tear to the eye.

I dont know how that dirty rat responsible for its demise can sleep at night.

He killed margate by killing dreamland. Now its overflowing with filth and heaving with scum.

    Fucking disgusting

  • Ahhh the sound the Looping Star made as it went round the loop is forever ingrained in my brain! Great video, brought back many memories. Thank you

  • superb vid. 1989 was about the last time I visited Bemboms. U used to be able to buy a combined train ticket. Big groups of us used to go. Shame no footage of the Mary Rose, m record was 8 times in a row! a few years ago I visited Margate and found that the park is now a carpark with the protected scenic railway surrounded by a fence. Very sad. Margate is shocking now, very run down. One thing though, The old joke shop was still there and exactly the same!

  • Thats my childhood right there. I have visited Theme and Amusement parks all over the world and nothing has ever captured the magic of Bembom Brothers. My first ever coaster was The Looping Star :) I still visit Margate sometimes and it is heartbreaking seeing the empty void that is left. Sort it out Thanet Council!

  • @Barcrest hey barcrest as my memory serves me right they removed the capsules from Apollo, relocated it to behind the scenic railway, sprayed the dome orange and fitted swings to it, renaming it Heatwave of which i thought was completely pointless!

  • why did they have 3 observation rides in a park this size, the big wheel was enough, instead of the zeppilin they should of had a drop tower

  • I visited Dreamland in 1996 from the US. I feel fortunate to have ridden the Scenic before it tragically burned. The Looping Star and the Chutes as well as many other of the rides shown here were not there in 1996. I hope they can get this historical place open again.

  • I remember being on the Mary Rose, with my sunglasses between my legs, fell out into the car when upside down, peoples money used to fall out their pockets, a right laugh, 2013 is the year Dreamland will RISE up out of the ashes

  • I was a frequent visitor in the 80's in my teens. so good to see how dreamland was then with this video! Such a shame it's all gone now I loved the looping star. Where are the river caves though? Now in 2011 Only the scenic railway remains, remain.. But if all goes to plan, Like a Phoenix, dreamland will rise again......
