On February 10, Israelis will go to the polls to choose a new government.

Israel's "Russians" - a catch term for some of the one million immigrants who have moved to Israel from the former Soviet Union over the past two decades - could hold the key to the next government and are said to be gravitating towards the right.

Al Jazeera's Barnaby Phillips reports.

  • I wish the Israelis will choose a strong leader who will stand up to Iran and to Hamas! As a Hispanic New Yorker, I will always support Israel. They are our only true friend an ally in the middle east, and the only place that didn't hold massive celebrations when the 9/11 tragedy happened. I still remember the Palestinians dancing in the streets and passing out candy to celebrate our tragedy. And now they want us to support them, and sympathize with them, what a joke!! Viva Israel !!

  • Zionism, for a while, redefined the Jewish identity. Jewishness meant first of all being supportive of Israel whatever happens. But now, with so many non Jewish immigrants living in Israel, the Jewish idendity will come come back to what it was. Jewishness will again be defined by a certain type of relationship to Torah, be it orthodox, conservative, liberal or reform. The more votes Lieberman gets, the less Jews over the world will feel complied to stand by Israel.

  • @Kuastoyn and I teach my children that hurting another for hurting them is not only correct justice, but its fine to do it 4 times and more over to him and his friends and family

touch. and the consequences will be far more then just a little hurting, thats kinda the point. that and justice.

it worked ín the past for sure, bombing palestina and the surrounding areas is better though

  • @kissemurra12 No, i just teach my children that hurting another for hurting them does nothing but hurt two people. And mostly not to hurt. You see my friend a lot of people in america (Not i) Feel that the Mid-East is a breading ground of war and hate (Including isreal) And that we should just go in and bomb it until nothing is left but land. and from what you just told me thats a good idea? It worked for the russians. Now i feel that would be needless blood.

  • @Kuastoyn actually you dont, if you would you would punch and do more to a child that attacked your child for obvious reasons. thought dont worry, we and others would do the same to your family if they attacked ours family, so you have nothing to worry about.

as history showned against the native americans, putting out the fire completly worked.

the link was that the red army killed the civilian population of the nazis, and it worked.

  • @kissemurra12 No sir, i do, and will protect my family with all my strength. But a man, must accept that they can't just think of there own family. That is why i'm passive, because being aggressive does nothing but to fuel the fires to burn other Men's family's. And i don't really understand what the connection between the topic about the politics and the Nazi and Red army? i wish to understand what you mean so i may learn, and understand your opinion.

  • @Kuastoyn from what you say, you are a very passive person who dont protect your own family.

Destruction of the nazis, in terms of tactics, the destruction of dresden wasnt done by killing 10 people and letting the people survive, it was killing almost the entire village while the red army destroyed the adults, all children who could fight back , and to this day, they have control of it(not official statement but its obvious) and there were no fighting back because they couldnt

  • @kissemurra12 Well i don't know, from what you just told me he's a very agressive person... and i thinnk the last thing the middle-east (Not just Isreal) is more leaders with agressive out looks. But i'm a libreal American equallist. So its not very fair for me to tell them how they should be, Just stating my opinion.

  • @Kuastoyn unless there is statistic to show the results of russian voters as a strong group and not just one of the many groups that politicans talk to then its merely because the media says so

that said avidgor leiberman knows how to protect israel, he has already showned he would go to jail to protect his own family. when his kid got harrased by another kid, he went there and beat the shit out of the guy. he took the fine. I would have done the same. europe needs ally itself with israel

  • Hmm interesting. Very knew that Russians had such a strong say in Isreali politics. Question are they Soviet supporters because the soviet union fell for a reason and if there just trying to make a new one it seams kinda pointless
