http://www.jasonscully.com - Someone asked me how they should approach a new student when they come in and are just starting or trying out BJJ. Here is my opinion.

  • Nice Doo-rag

  • @TheDrunkenInsomniac Thanks...its a backwards hat. For some reason I like to where hats and if it's forward it puts a big shadow on my face.

  • Thanks! I just started studying BJJ from Sergbjj.com two weeks ago. This video really made sense as a new student! I also liked your article about what does it take to be a good training partner!

  • Great points, it's hard for someone who has never trained before to walk in cold, I know Iv'e done it a fews times with varied treatment, again, great points and attitude.

  • I have seen a lot of BJJ videos and this is among the best. I had went through both of these, good and bad. Worse thing is when your new and you go to too hard (the strength over lack of technique thing), and partners don't tell you and you just get smashed the whole class, or you get smothered and laid on the whole time....

  • awesome video.

  • much respect, jason. i'd like to take this video and place it in just about every bjj school i've ever been to

  • I agree with you a 100%!

  • Peace dude :)

  • I remember my first dayof BJJ. Every single blue belt wanted to teach me lol. Its funny how much blue belts want to teach white belts.

  • dude you should say: "Hi, I do BJJ, and I'm a Mormon", at the end of the vid, that'd be awesome, hahaha, just joking

I just joined BJJ for 2 classes, and I got 'beat up' pretty much in each rolling, but it's fun and it's a superb challenge. I trained Tae Kwon Do for 3 years and now I've experienced the rear naked choke and arm bar for the 1st time, so big respect for BJJ!

  • i've only been to a few bjj schools but the ones i've been to have had some of the nicest guys i've met!
