This film is a remake of "Love is News" 1937
Movie Plot:
Tom and Sara engage in a running battle of wits after Tom pries into her private life as an unscrupulous, investigative reporter. Sara gets even with him in a tit for tat battle in which they torment each other endlessly. She claims they were married in secret during the assignment in order to humiliate and disgrace Tom with his own newspaper and the public. Tom tries to force her to proclaim the truth in a signed statement by boldly acting as her husband and claiming his conjugal right!

Background of this scene.
Tom has just been assaulted by a group of Teamsters at a roadside café, who mistakenly believed they were coming to Sara's rescue -- thanks to Sara. The police arrived only to find Tom lying flat on his back unconscious; Sara attempting to revive him. Assuming a domestic dispute to be the cause of the disturbance, the sheriff took them both into custody.

Heavens to Murgartoid! Thanks for posting! Tyrone & Gene were one of the screen's most charistmatic couples! I've read that this movie was a remake of an earlier Fox/Tyrone Power movie ("Love is News") wherein Loretta Young had the Gene Tierney role. You've MADE my day & my week! CHEERS! :-)
