I'm reading a fabulous book called "the other brain". The guy talks about the new research being done with the glia - Apparently many have thought this stuff was just the glue that held the important stuff (neurons) together... NOT.

I guess, this video is from studies a a british neurologist who pumped GDNF protein in the brain of 5 Parkinson's patients and showed its remarkable curing effects. This study was followed by a controversial poorly designed failed clinical trial by an American drug company who had patent of GDNF.American company did not followed same method /dosage of GDNF in their trial as British neurologist. As drug company holds the patent so its hard for any other researcher/doctor to try it.

Glial-cell derived neurotrophic factor. It is expressed in the brain of growing embryos, and causes the directional growth of neurons and axons.
