In the case of Syria, the clear option is to oppose the rebels since a) they have clear links to Al-Qaeda and b) they are using chemical weapons against the civilian populace. If Al-Assad falls, these fundamentalists will take over (just as in Libya) and tear the country and its people apart. Got a little off track, but my point is that the main focus of Anonymous is to act like a mediating factor in world politics.

For example, with the current conflict in Syria - Anonymous doesn't have a collective standing. One side wishes to topple Al-Assad and to instate a democratic government, which is theoretically understandable. The problem is that this side doesn't understand the sociopolitical ramifications of removing that factor of stability, as corrupt as it may be. If Al-Assad falls, Islamic fundamentalists will get a foothold in Syria just as they have in Libya and many thousands more will die.

I don't think you understand what Anonymous is. It doesn't have a set command structure; anyone can claim they are Anonymous. I'm sure the teenagers who hacked Sony are are lovely bunch who spend a lot of time playing PS3, but they aren't representative of Anonymous as a whole. The problem has always been that anyone can speak for Anonymous. The core purpose of Anonymous is much like that of WikiLeaks - to leak documents from government agencies and to prove political ideals.

How about releasing evidence that the US deliberately bombed civilian shelters during the Gulf War? You obviously don't understand the concept of hacking; it is not exclusively a criminal act. If hacking is used to release evidence of war crimes previously hidden by the American government, it can be used as a tool for justice. Then again, I shouldn't expect someone who spends hours on end commenting on YouTube videos to have even a remote understanding of politics or the world around him.
