I think Dr. Strangelove should be a place higher...

You should go rent, or buy, Full Metal Jacket. Kubrick's interpretation of the war in Vietnam is a piece of art

Glad I'm not the only one to hate Spartacus. I think your list is close to mine, Lolita lower, The Shining higher and you've got it.

Remember that Spartacus was Kirk Douglas' movie. It was already written and so on when Kirk asked kubrick into direct. Only then did Kubrick do his 'human chess game', ie man and taipulating people to get his own way, and take over the picture. It was not, compared to his films after this, a 100% Kubrick movie so we can forgive him for this one.

Barry Lyndon gives me shivers.
It is, without a doubt, Kubrick's most beautiful film. Maybe not the best, but the most beautiful.

A beautiful movie to look at, but like his other movies, it is full of hidden layers and meanings. There's a guy called robag88 who does excellent and indepth analysis of Kubrick's movies. some of what he discovers will blow your mind. You think Kubrick is a master now, wait until yo find out what he was really up too. The man was a creative genius!!!!
