http://www.cva.com/dangerous-loading-practices.php - Making sure you load your muzzleloader properly, no matter which brand, is important. When loading a muzzleloader NEVER use modern smokeless gun powder, matter what brand of muzzleloader you have. Loading your muzzleloader with smokeless powder or having a barrel obstruction from a short loaded bullet or mud in the muzzle and turn you rifle into a pipe bomb.

  • I assume most people use smokeless powder to avoid the smoke. If manufacturers would make a powder specifically for a muzzle loader without the smoke, some of these mistakes may be avoided.

120 grains of smokeless is way more than I use of black powder.

  • STOP DESTROYING GUNS PLEEEEEAAASE! ='(

  • Do you have a video that shows results of not seating the ball prior to shooting? I mark a ring around my ramrod at the muzzle when the gun is loaded. Then I can look at the ramrod when it is inserted into the bore. If the ring is even with the muzzle it is loaded. If the ring goes out of sight into the bore, then the gun is not loaded. It helps.

  • @zxlp69 also he was using fast burning pistol and shotgun powder instead of slow rifle powder

  • this is so sad !!!! So many beatiful guns getting ruined - please never do that again

  • @dogbone222 I mean smokeless powder for muzzeloaders way back when

  • Why would it do that though. Smokeless uses gases more than burnable elements right? It doesn't seem like it should do that. And didn't a Jesuit priest make some smokeless powder? Idk I'm knew to al this

  • A dozen grains (plus or minus) of smokeless powder might be a reasonable load. Not the 120 gr. as used in this video.

  • Actually I use FFFG in my .50 rifle. It is safe to do so, I've done my research and even called Traditions to make sure it's safe. I use 75 grains of Triple Seven, a .490 round ball, and a .010 pillow ticking patch. It shoots super flat and is nice and clean burning, I can shoot about 25 before I need to swab the bore. Course, you have to be safe while doing this and always seat the ball on top of the powder (As you demonstrated)

  • i feel sorry for that poor bench rest, it didnt deserve that
