Leavenworth was founded in 1906. A small timber community, it soon became the headquarters of the Great North Railroad. In the 1920s the railroad relocated to Wenatchee, WA aproxmently 20 miles away which greatly affected Leavenworth's economy.
Leavenworth labored until it was transformed into a mock Bavarian village which revitalize its economy. Leavenworth is home to the Leavenworth Nutcracker Museum, which opened in 1995 and contains more than 5,000 nutcrackers dating from prehistoric to modern. Leavenworth's annual Oktoberfest celebration is claimed to be one of the most attended in the world outside of the one in Munich, Germany.

nice video.
visited Leavenworth Washington several weeks ago...visiting from Washington DC.
I know BAvaria and it was like being there..nice litttle town, very clean. My only complaint was the 'German" food was not very good. Can't remember the place we ate but was very disappointed in the Saurebraten. Imagine its beautiful there in the Winter with snow on the ground!] Would recommend people visiting this little town!
