Record Spiny Butterfly Stingray on News

this is one of the biggest "butterfly" rays ever caught on rod and reel, with only 25lbs of test, with a 50lb shock leader! the only other ray that gets bigger would be a manta.This ray was over 6 feet wide and MAXED out the scales at the CBBT at 200+ lbs!!!! Offical documents have been recorded at the CBBT about the 200+ pound ray maxing out there scales.This was recorded at an offical weigh station in VA , at the chesapeke bay bridge tunnel. Since the scales only went up to 200lbs at the bay bridge tunnel, we had to find someone who had scales that would read higher then 200lbs! 12 hours later , we obtained better scales that would read pass 200lbs, and finaly got a weight of 278lbs!!! Keep in mind this is after water loss / blood loss from fish! This was caught off of a fishing peir! over a 1 hour fight! I've been online researching the different sizes of this type of ray, and I belive I have caught one of the biggest if not the biggest spiny butterfly ray ever. if I had the means to weigh the beast in properly it could have well been close to 300lbs before water and blood loss. The offical IGFA record for this species of ray is 132 and 4 oz. I am submited my IGFA record app. via mail , and I am waiting for a response shortly. When verified by the IGFA , I will have beat a very old record, look it up if you have doughts , I am just please to have some sort of a world record regaurdless if people think its wrong for me keeping this huge ray. When I talked to the Reperentive of IGA, she told me, after veiwing my pictures up here, there shouldn't be a problem, send in the app, and the biologist will have a look at it. This ray also had a 3 inch or so barb on its tail, so I know it was a spiny butterfly ray and not a smooth butterfly ray. I learned the difference recently , and that is why I have sumbited my app.
and to people that want to leave trash talk comments, please obtain a WORLD RECORD for ANY type of FISH what so ever, then talk your smack! intill then, this boy from VA has a pending WORLD RECORD TITLE FOR THIS TYPE OF RAY!, the only other rays that get bigger are Manta's , enjoy, Please post comments, hope you enjoy!

I got money for this stingray, as well as gave it away to some asain man that wanted it. I made money off this wonderful catch and gave it away for food. Nothing went to waste at all. This was a once in a life time catch as well. for this species of ray , this ray is abnormaly big. This landed me on national geographics. Lvanov1960 , you can eat shit and bark at the fucking moon you tree huggin faggot. This stingray isn't rare at all , the only thing rare was how big the ray grew to be, 200 Lbs.

lIBER8D83, Thanks , but if you read the vid discribtion you will see that I clearly state that for the species of stingray I caught , it is ABNORMALY bigger then normal. World record was only 132lb and 4 oz,. There are serveal stingrays that grow bigger than what I caught , ... what you are failing to respect a recorld that was beat by well over 130lbs for this TYPE of ray. On average this ray only grows up to 50 - 70 lbs.

congradulations on that amazing catch dude. i would have done the same thing. holding any igfa world record is an awsome acomplishment and something to be proud of. i've caught a couple rays down in ocean city and they put up one hell of a fight. i can't imagine what catching one that size is like.

@Ivanov1690 Seriously, Ivanov1690, you need to think about what you say before you say it. This fish species is often made into sushi, which explains why the Asian man wanted it. Besides, it is perfectly possible to maintain a fishery WITHOUT over harvesting it, which is why there are size limits, closed and open fishing seasons and fishing tackle restrictions for certain species. I study marine biology and go to Cape Cod every summer, where there still plenty of fish.
