What is Contemporary Art? I am Contemporary Art, I am what Art is today, and so are you. And if the small minded old school click doesnt get that, then thats ok, cause Im Amanda Delight and Im movin on, movin up!

All of my career I have been inspired by the spirit of the people around me, therefore I am a portrait artist at heart. However, after many muses, my daughter being the greatest, I am slowly moving to the untamed world of abstraction. I have enjoyed combining the two forms together using traditional oil painting techniques with modern mixed media.

I want to be know for giving of myself and asking for nothing in return. It always comes back to the people in my opinion. I want to move people and have them express emotions. I feel it all, the good and the bad. We are here to live life and learn lessons. I am a good person, and I want my art to reflect that. Its not about technique, color or composition. People that cant see beyond that, miss the point I was tryin to make.

  • I agree with everything you are saying... but.... Apply what you know of your day job to art. If you are applying for the job you now have against somebody else who doesn't have a degree or at least a degree that isn't related to the job, wouldn't you expect to get the job if your degree is related to the work? If you have trained for the job in higher education, isn't there SOMETHING more to your credentials? In any interview, the first questions you get are about your credentials.

  • Amanda, you should contact other midnight artists in your area and coordinate your own community craft fair. Forget the lady from the gallery.

  • @ArwenWarner I'm a bit torn on your comment, there are part I agree with and some that I don't know where you are coming from.

There are a lot of people in creative fields that ARE self taught and do amazing on their own. And the thing with art classes is that when you take an art program you have to conform to the professors views, create something that is "actually art". Its still your creativity, but its not you. They tell you what is and isn't art according to them, which isn't right.

  • You are simplifying art to an instinct.

Critiques by other artists are just as being up for a promotion at work. It is common to become emotional considering the work is usually sentimental. You cannot “know what you know” about being a “professional”. Are you a “self-taught” mammographer? This is close-mindedness and I implore you to reconsider an education in this field.

Any artist can paint what they see.

A genuine artist can paint what they observe.

    ~Good luck

  • here here!

  • We define art....never give them that...they will detroy as they always have.....
