Since 1997, Notre Dame has been committed to the elimination of lymphatic filariasis. Through the mass treatment of more than 1.3 million people annually, the Haiti Program, led by Notre Dame biologist Father Thomas Streit, is one of the world's premier initiatives against elephantiasis.

As a small white kid growing up in rural Tanganyika, elephantiasis was common enough to make me think people with a "fat" leg (or other part) were just another tribe! Only later did I know the horrible truth (my video contains original footage of 1950's & 60's Tanganyika/Tanzania). Good to know someone is trying to help!
