is there anyway to check this for fat ps3? after a ylod fix it doesn't even light up red anymore so i'm not sure if its a loose/faulty connection, bad psu, bad power switch, or damaged motherboard
@7BEG Not directly from the 5 pin DC output, there are 3 pins on the fan: one has 12Volts supplied to it, the second is variable voltage to control fan speed (like a transistor), and third is ground.
hey! I just did this and the multimeters says 25V is that ok???? also i hear a click when i turn it on, and another click before it turns off, is that normal????
Dou you know which pins on the 5 pin P/S jack are used for control of the 12VDC output of the PS?
I.E. testing SMPS WITHOUT pluging it in to the PS3 Motherboard may be possible, if the 5 pin connector is used for feedback to turn the SMPS's 12vdc rail on... I believe there is +5vdc (and maybe -5vdc) on the 5 pin connector, but I cannot find a schematic or pinout diagram for the PS3 power supply...do you have any more info on voltages and control signal info for pinouts for the PS3 SMPS?

@QuagmiresGiggity hi.. if you want to use the DC outlet for the fan.. is there any necesary conection on the 5 pin jack?

is 12v minimum for it to run probably? i get around 11.96v is close enough for an 80gb model?

dude there is soooooo many problems with your method. your only checking the fan what about the 5.5volts that go to the board itself

@gregtheham when you are looking @ the main board 5 pin plug's exposed side it should be from right to left:
1 +5V
2 +5V
3 GND
4 GND
5 +3V
