Shirley Brown was born on 6th January 1947 in West Memphis then moved to Saint Louis where she sang with many soul artists before a first recording on A-Bet in Nashville. • somebody can tell me the lyrics please?

  • I love Aretha and i love MS Shirley there is no tune like it ant no fun!! baby

she sing her heart out and it is a true song ! Shirley will allways be ONE1 in my book!

  • what a wonderful voice!

  • Yes love has power to do all things when you get it at the right time with the right person.

Oh I agree wtih you whole heartedly and she may have been the one to steal Aretha's thunder in the mid-seventies instead of Natalie Cole if Shirley would have had the right lable and people backing her. And yes I love Aretha, there's only one Aretha. I also respect the artistry of other artist and Shirley is an artist that should have had more recognition instead of being regulated to the one hit wonder list.

  • @jtyre25 You make some valid points. However, I don't think 'now and again she is excellent' is correct. All of the time is more accurate. Look, it's obvious you love Aretha. I just wanted to point out that with the correct marketing, backing label, songwriters, producers etc. PR and surrounding yourself with well connected people, Shirley would have been loved by many millions as Aretha had proved. Shirley would have been just as big. You rightly pointed out it is sad. I think it's CRIMINAL!

Shirley is great, but you have to remember Aretha was the first to have this sound and came at a time when women were not singing like this. Aretha deserves all the recognition she has. Shirley is an underrated singer but was not signed to the right lable and fell through the cracks, which is sad. Now again she is excellent, but there is only one Aretha Franklin. Plus the fact that you can tell she was influenced by Aretha.
