Colonial Williamsburg provides the most authentic history lesson imaginable at its Courthouse. Millions of visitors got to know Courthouse as a museum until it closed in 1989 for restoration. On June 1, 1991, the Courthouse reopened after complete restoration to its 18th-century appearance. It was restored by craftsmen using colonial methods and tools hammered and sawed and planed and joined the interior into its original appearance as visitors looked on. Today, many visitors participate daily in mock trials as plaintiffs, defendants, jurors, and audience based on cases taken from historical records.
