Thomascow`s version of the Wild Colonial Boy, It first appeared in print circa 1830. The rogue is also called Jack Donohue, Jack Doogan, and Jack Duggan. He was transported to Australia, escaped and resumed a life of crime, but was eventually shot in 1830. Jack Dowling a bushranger in the 1870s was recognized with many of the same offences: he shared the same fate. Castlemaine, an Irish market-town, situated on the harbour, on the north side of the river Maine and lies south-east of the Slieve Mish range of mountains. The Maine flows into the harbour of Castlemaine. To the west of the town lies the ruins of Castledrum, there the Australian outlaw, was born. This version is mainly penned, arranged, adapted and produced by Thomascow now a noted Irish Historian..Enjoy

  • @corjca Is this a comment or lyrics for a new song?

  • Sorry, it was Harry Power, not Frank who robbed the Beechworth coach. I was mixing him with another bushranger, Frank Gardiner.

  • The 1830s song was Bold Jack Donahue. The Wild Colonial Boy was written in Australia around 1880 and although closely related to Bold Jack Donahue moves the action from Sydney in the 1820s to the Victorian Gold Fields in the 1860s. In the original Australian version the Wild Colonial Boy was born in Castlemaine Victoria, not in Ireland. The song in an amalgam of various people and events, not the story of any one person, eg. the Beechworth Coach was robbed by Frank Power.

  • @edward0988 Well thanks again, the real fun only takes over in the last few verses, which I added my self to lift the long tedium, hope you were able to last it out, Cheers ED
