Keith Olbermann makes a great comment on the backwardsness of the rescinding of already granted rights of gays to marry.

The proposition 8 wording is just like the "Separate but Equal" legislation of the 60's.

I am not gay, and being in NY I am about as far away from California as you can get in this country, so there is no personal agenda here.

  • The reason is that the state has the right to draw lines. It does not have to allow everything to everyone. Thus, if you 20.5 - you can't legally drink, if you are 21.1 - you can. Age of consent is the same. If we give the power to the state to regulate some marriages, it is simply hypocritical to say that they can ban polygamous or incentuous marriages but not gay marriages. Moreover, since gay couples do have all the same rights, they are already better off then polygamists, who have no rights

  • Also, the difference is uncontrollable biology compared to religion. Someone is born black, someone is born gay, etc. They both are not learned or "nurtured" (ignorant, just wrong disagreements aside). Polygamy and incest are religious concepts, and legal permission for those can ostensibly extend to being legally able to marry a chair or a mushroom - if you choose to align yourself with such a religion.

Many religions coexist in the US, and the US,is not just a "christian country" in law.

  • I am not gay, but I was shocked, actually shocked that California voted this way. The gay community there has done so much for the community. It's unbelievable that everyone has turned their back on them. Even Arnold Schwarzenegger was surprised.

It's not Right. It's Wrong. We need to stand with our gay brothers and sisters and cousins and uncles and friends...

It's about Right and Wrong. They want to be "Normal."

    What's wrong with that?

  • I live in the UK and gay marraige has been legal here for a few years now. Im actually shocked that the gay marraige law got overturned. Its very backward and pointless =S

  • Every person in America has a stake in allowing gay marriage to be legal. Just as every person...gay or straight has a stake on wheather or not we should have a law agasint smoking in public places. Keith, u don't fool me with your scripted speech. In this country, every person has a stake on issues or believes which is what politics, issues, the human heart or human nature is all about.

I hope Keith realizes that the majority of the country is still right wing at heart.

  • VERY WELL SAID! I bow down to this straight amazing man. wish the world thought more like you.. truly this world would be more peaceful

  • I don't want young children learning about this perverted stuff in schools! I don't want to see AIDS spreading faster. People should think before making that choice. "Gays" should get no civil rights, marriage has always and will be with a man and a woman! You can't just change things up. It's like a game, you go by the rules. You just can't change things and add new facts and new rules. Thank god! YES! GOD! Californians voted YES on Prop 8! I love you California!

  • and fundies have the highest divorce rate rotflmao

  • I think that the argument for siblings is that there may be a good chance for genetic abnormalities. As for the Mormons, I think they actually did the most in terms of funding to get Prop 8 passed. Interesting, since you would think that they would be more aware of the state telling them what is legal and what is not in terms of marriage....

  • well it look like the califonia is now a facsit mormon and christian state.

    great vid thanks for posting

  • Prop8 is essentially saying to homosexual couples: Your love is second rate love. Even as a heterosexual I cannot help but see that as an unacceptable insult.
