Living Culture visits with Jennifer Johns and students from Willamette University, as they embark on a farming project. The university purchased 305 acres of farm and forest land in Polk County, 10 miles northwest of Salem, Oregon. The students created a small kitchen-garden on the south side of the farmhouse, and are working with a 1 acre field to grow vegetables for Bon Appetit- the food service provider at the university. Students are also engaged in other projects which include keeping honeybees, constructing a windmill to produce electricity, composting, and installing a rainwater harvesting system.

Living Culture is a monthly television series that showcases cuisine and agriculture in the Pacific Northwest. Our mission is to generate interest in local foods through inspiring and positive media.
