@humpitus I'd rather you didn't assume all students drink and fail exams.
Perhaps you should open your mind a bit more and stop posting garbage. And in response to your other comment: I know some people who got Firsts in college and have been trying to find jobs for two years. Not everything is as black and white as you think.
It's funny that you say stuff like "PROPAGANDA", yet you spread your own type by portraying all students as wasters.
if students don't take these responsibilities how can you say they deserve these rights.
reckless driving, drinking etc etc, failing exams that are difficult to fail and blaming the system and march against other people's decisions when if they looked at their own lives and sorted that out first they'd be way better off
only <5% of students would be affected, and if class rep training is done on campus thats one olution found, use the money squandered in previous year to restore this huge 10%.
PROPAGANDA and lots of it. hopefully most people can see through the lies.
Instead of skipping college for a day, students would be more in line to get an education and learn something instead of shouting slogans like"education not emigration". you can't get an education if you don't bother showing up at every available opportunity. if the ucd students union hadnt wasted €20000 ( of registration fees and taxpayers money ) on this protest.
they could have supported more than 20 extra people who are struggling to pay for college.
and finally to say people won't be able to afford college after registration fees are increased , is exaggerated. most people could, and some of the money raised could go to pay for grants for those who couldnt.
oh and by the way i know people who got grants and ended up going across europe for the summer with this money.
FAIR?
i think NOT.
students union's would have the right to moral high ground on money that trhe govenment spent if they didnt waste money themselves.
the money for the training of class reps could be used to support people who are struggling to pay for college, instead of disrupting lectures and protesting with slogans of blatent propaganda, trying to put the blame on someone else.
if the usi and students union opened their eyes they'd see that they are as hypocritical in their waste of funds as bankers or the government has been.
How can the USI and Students Unions justify paying money for class rep training away from college campuses, which end up as major drinking sessions in posh hotels, and when damage is done( which does happen) the USI and students unions end up paying the extra bills?
To protest about money being misused by our elected representatives is a bit ironic.
I'd like anyone to try and convince me I'm wrong.
Colleges have sufficient space and ample facilities to provide training for reps.

"Eduaction is a right not a privilege"
with rights come responsibilities.

dreading unemployment after college?
then work harder and get better grades so you'll be employable
or
choose a course that is worthwhile and has a lack of graduates now.

Oh well, at least I won't have to worry about midterms and essays if the government jacks up the registration fee and cuts the grant.
