Piglet likes to create these little foxholes to sit in and survey her domain. The location, materials, and style change daily, but the 'princess on her throne' demeanor stays the same.

  • hey there. one of the hamsters i adopted have a little bald spots around her nose and back. may i know is it due to fights among it's siblings or an illness?

    thanks in advance

  • @magersxx1992 Unlikely to be from fighting, there will be bleeding and wounds before there is hair loss. And if bleeding, need to separate from siblings.

If it's disease or parasites, there will be skin irritation and/or sores.

Otherwise, most likely cause is poor nutrition. Make sure they have a diet consisting of fortified hamster chow + fortified hamster pellet.

If it doesn't clear up with good diet, or if it looks painful, then you should go to the vet.

  • @cjbrix i have a robo (Run-Away, named for obvious reasons...) who eats a mix of hamster pellets and seeds. She eats everything but the pellets. How do i make her eat them? according to the comment you made with that one with bald spots.

  • @erietigers91 By not giving more until they're eating what you want. My own rule is 75% of their food has to be gone before I'll give more. Including what they've stashed - peek around, they may be hiding the stuff they like.

The more of thier chow they eat the better, they're getting a more balanced diet than if they just eat their first choices. But at the same time I don't think you have to be completely strict about it. I also have hamsters that don't eat much pellet, and I think it's ok.

  • @cjbrix A couple other suggestions: Make sure pellets aren't stale. I keep mine in a tupperware-like container. They will like them better fresh.

And I also alternate on feedings. One feeding is chow, next feeding is pellet. That means sometimes things get a bit lean except for pellets. They'll eat them.
