Part one of a seven part series in which I basically grind experience 1991 style. Imagine a far future in which WoW has been forgotten and a lone gamer stays up late playing a hacked version of the original game client. Sure, there aren't any other players and I can't even save my progress. Sure, the Wharves are basically the starting area. But I dare you to find other videos of this game online.

Watch in rapture as I turn a level one Paladin with nothing more than a 1d6 shortsword to his name into an AC0, broadsword-wielding, gutter-cleaning fiend.

  • Were it up to me, this would be where WoW is now.

Imagine, a turn-based MMORPG. I wonder if such a thing will ever come into existence...

    (Long dramatic pause)

    Sadly, no.

  • Yeah, it's not likely. You know, playing this game was painful - but not because there was no storyline and I couldn't save. What got me was the sheer emptiness of it, and I couldn't help but think how much fun I would probably have had with it back in the day.

Then again, I was four years old when it came out, so...

  • im trying to play this game but have no idea what to do. do you have a link to a manual or walkthrough

  • Are you sure this is the game you're thinking of? You can't play this game to any sort of conclusion -- there's no storyline that I've found and at any rate you can't save your progress. You'd need a group to even leave the starting areas, but the only existing version of the game client is offline-only.

I don't know of any walkthroughs and I've never seen the original manual, if there even was one.

  • oh ok thanks for your help, but did u ever play the online version but in the early 90's

  • No, I didn't. I was born in late 1987.

  • @lakristianla It was an online game back in the day with over people. It was a 2D MMO.

  • @boilerplate Play Wizards 101, it's for kids, but still fun IMO, it's a turn based MMO.

  • Acording to Wikipedia i just read this was the first graphic mmorpg, now how is this an mmorpg? (massively multiplayer) ???

  • this game goes for almost astronomical prices fully boxed nowadays.

  • I played this game. I'm 26 now and this was my first online game. My parents got AOL and my brother discovered this. Played it for like 2 years. Good times man, thanks for the videos.

  • @livebabylive15 i beleive game went offline in 97 right?

  • @boilerplate there are a few free to plays now... One is called Wonderland that is turned based... but I don't suppose its quite like this...

  • @M2Marknight - Wow I just dug up my game box a put it on Ebay. Memories of my misspent youth, now a misspent middle age. Just say no to MORPG's. I remember how painfully expensive it was at the time. You never forget your first addiction.

  • so baasically this is like an online version of pool of radiance.

  • this looks a lot like pool of radiance........o.o
