Claudio Abbado conducts Mahler Symphony No.2 with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, at the 2004 Lucerne Festival.

As soon as Abbado lowered his baton his interpretation of the Second Symphony by Mahler became a legend.

An invisible thread runs between Claudio Abbado and the Second Symphony Resurrection by Mahler. It is with this work that he made his debut with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Vienna in Salzburg at the age of thirty-two and it is this symphony he decides to conduct in August 2003 in Lucerne, with the new orchestra that he helped revive, the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.

  • This is not the Berlin Philharmonic - it is the Lucern Festival Orchestra

  • I love the Berlin Phil. Best orchestra in the world, no exceptions, no one else close - not Vienna, not New York, not anyone. What style, what coolness. Not an orchestra of Scharzeneggers or Atlases...an orchestra of Gods.

  • aaaaaaaah. whole fifth movement from this performance used to be on youtube! but its not anymore! or i just can't find it. does anybody know where i might? short of actually buying the dvd performance?

  • @ilbacioditosca how can you hate it? :S

  • @mortalfrog0815 Almost 12 minutes into the 5th movement.

  • This is probably my favorite moment in all of music. Mahler is stunning.

  • which movement is this?

  • Sabine Meyer's playing in this orchestra! WOW!
