*Speaker:
-Joaquin Beltran, Professor, Autonomous University of Barcelona
-Sang-Dae Hahn, Professor, Myongji University
-Shinji Yamashita, Professor, Tokyo University
*Description:
The transnational ethnic network is said to be a globalization force from below counterbalancing the globalization from above by the public institutions such as the international organization, the super powers, and the multinational corporations. The people of the same language, the history, and the ethnic identity move their man-power, capital, and technologies efficiently and quickly through the network transcending the limits of nation-states boundaries.
The estimated number of the ethnic Koreans living overseas is around 7 million mostly concentrated in 4 super-powers surrounding Korean peninsula, the US, Japan, CIS and China. The Korean transnational network is becoming more developed and influential as the medium of trade, politics, and more. And its impact on Korean peninsula grows stronger in every respect including as the source of human resources, capital, and technologies.
