When I was in kindergarten back in Russia, we always decorated windows with paper snowflakes for the New Year's holiday. We competed with each other to see whose snowflakes were the best.
As a little girl, I believed that snowflakes were a gift from Santa Claus, that he had all handcrafted himself. I would go outside to catch real snowflakes and examine them carefully to remember their patterns.
Even though I loved cutting paper into complicated patterns, I knew that my snowflakes could never be as pretty as real ones.
When I first saw Mino washi, the way its white texture was playing in sunlight reminded me of real snowflakes. Mino washi was smooth and flexible, and yet durable. I just knew that it would make perfect paper snowflakes. Bringing back my childhood memory, I drew various
snowflake patterns. My patterns were then made into beautiful products, which amazed me a lot. They looked exactly like real snowflakes!
