Great engines. I had a 322 many years back. That one sounds like the flywheel banging on something, maybe a loose torque convertor bolt. Ether should be illegal. Not only like beating the piston crowns with a small hammer, it dissolves the oil film off everything it touches.

I guess starter fluid isnt all its cracked up to be.
I really like the black painted Nailhead, Ive never seen that before. Hope spraying all that ether didnt mess up the paint.

@jamesbulldogmiller nope...that wasnt it actually. The oil pan had a very small dent in it and was pushed up just enough so that the crank shaft was rubbing. ding ding ding.

turns it to gum. Use to much and it will actually melt a piston. Use only when actually needed. Personally i prefer to use a bit of gas down the throat of the carb.
Awesome nailhead though. What size?

Next time? seriously.. Try a spray bottle with gas in it.. you used enough ether to light up 20 cars.. or blow up one persons face completely with a backfire...
