The Transportation Cabinet's Capital City Airport recently received a number of America's most highly-decorated war heroes. On a windy afternoon, recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor flew into Frankfort to visit the Kentucky Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The visit was in conjunction with the Congressional Medal of Honor Society Convention held in Louisville. While the heroes' visit was special, the 355 acre Capital City Airport performs over 34,000 aircraft operations each year. The airport has a 5,900 foot runway that enables a variety of corporate, government and pleasure aircraft to fly into and out of Frankfort. The airport facilities also include 41 existing T-hangers, maintenance facilities, and 17 tie-down spots. The Transportation Cabinet operates three other facilities across the state. These airports are at Kentucky Dam, Lake Barkley and Rough River state resort parks.
