This is an OLD sawmill built from some scrapped antique sawmills by John Ross of Hebron, Indiana. John has 60 years of experience as a sawyer and the magical ability to "see" inside a log to know how best to get it to give up its beauty in hardwood lumber. You can see the old WWI era Case steam engine bought new in 1919 by John's father & uncle, one of many antique tractors here on the old Ross farm.
On this day we were sawing utility poles into 2 X 8 decking for a trailer, and some 1 X 8 sides for another trailer. This is Yellow Pine, called "Hard Pine" around here. Other days we would saw Black Cherry, Black Walnut, White Oak or Hickory.
The ride from my house to the tractor is delight on a nice day.
cool, thanks for sharing. Interesting to see how that old mill works.
