Yet another horrific "gather" by the notoriously heartless BLM. I can't wait to see the video of Freedom as he escapes, and I pray he heals quickly. My heart aches for him leaving his family.

I don't own horses but I get a general understanding of why this is done. Population control etc

@SuperTannerm DO YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS TO THE HORSES THAT DONT GET AWAY OR FIND A HOME??!! THEY ARE SENT TO SLAUGHTER! Yes i have seen wild horses. I RESCUE THEM! If the BLM would castrate the stallions. or provide birth control to the mares. They do that with deer so why not horses! learn how to use real english!

I wish all the wild horses could be free. And we go back to the western days. Horses were roaming free everywhere then. And if they died, They died of a natural cause, not from some stupid people who want to own everything. They should just leave these horses be, or not be so cruel to them when they are rounding them up. Either way is not good. Horses are magnificent animals, and shouldn't be treated poorly.

Here is the reason for roundups:
Interior Secretary Ken Salazar approved a big solar energy plant in the Mojave Desert on Wednesday [Oct 20, 2010], making it the fifth such project on public land in the West to win federal authorization.
His approval authorizes the Bureau of Land Management to offer Tessera Solar the use of more than 4,600 acres for 30 years to build the Calico Solar Project. The project next faces a hearing before the California Energy Commission.

You are the guardian of 2 horses? Try owning 6. You should be first in line to adopt more, especially since you do have your own land. If you have your own land, why only 2 in the last 10 years? Financial reasons or the cost and requirements these animals take? However, I do appreciate your comments about the use of PZP and a sanctuary setup with predators and prey. People who don't know horses get the wrong ideas from these videos.

@Melz2mStarman Melz - If the BLM would return the 20+ million acres they stole from the horses since 1971 there would be no need for any adoptions. The horses are much happier out on the open range living in their family bands without human intervention then they are castrated and living fenced in. Adoptions are a sad last resort taken by advocates that haven't been able to convince the larger culture to preserve it's history and give some respect to the animals that built this country.

i think u dumb ppl that believe all this garbage r crazy. answer me this?? have u even seen an actual wild horse?? or do u just keep watchin these dumb videos?? and wildhorseanni. they r not lying murders. if they didnt try to control the population there woiuld be so many horses. they would be on highways interstates and u would prob hit 1. and horses dnt just ruin ur car they kill u, b/c they r so big... i think its great what BLM r doin. i dnt see u helpin w anythin but causin drama. bout it

@SuperTannerm I made these videos so I have obviously seen a wild horse. in fact i have been the guardian of two on my own land for almost ten years.
the rest of your ignorant rant doesn't warrant a rational response. just this week the BLM has driven 8 horses to their death by chasing them with helicopters for too many miles during a roundup. is that your idea of "great"?

It is brutal and unfounded to round up these beautiful animals. There is a contraceptive called PZP wich would hinder the population control by temp. steralizing mare for a while to control populations instead of these cruel round ups but then the ranchers would have to be responsible for their cattle and take them OFF public land and give it back to the horses, this is the real reason these animals are dying.

pt2 response
The BLM does roundups once every 5 years in a given herd area, that would have to be every two years to keep PZP current. Studies also that show PZP can interfere with the social behavior of mares. I think the idea of "reserve design" - creating real horse sanctuaries on millions of acres that imitate nature - with predators and prey- is the only way to keep wild horses alive and well in the wild without man's interference.
