i bet the first site they started was a porn one....

@netcomlte Så sant, er så glad at Norge begynte med dette først og ikke Amerika som alltid skal være først. Haha, det er så mange amerikanere som nekter for at 4G eksisterer bare fordi de ikke har det. Det er så tragisk!
-ONLY IN NORWAY.

Wimax is NOT 4G!!! 4G/LTE is only live in Stockholm Sweden (Ericsson equipment) and Oslo Norway (Huawei equipment). Teliasonera thats owns the both operators that have these both trail-networks have chosen Ericsson to build up the hole network in Sweden and Norway and will swap out the Huawei equipment and replace it with Ericssons hardware in Oslo later on!
-
Both 4G networks in Moscow and Oslo were bulit by Huawei...
-
The 4G (LTE) in Oslo is not the 4G (Wimax) in US, Russia
-
google "At the moment, the service is available in Moscow and St. Petersburg"
-
youtube also 'LTE site launched in Stockholm'

Why did the laptop have an LAN connection plugged in?

The EthCable is connected to a modem. Currently no commercial modems are available so the one we used is more like a test terminal. When we launch the service to customers, USB dongles and/or PC cards will be available.

Not a "big hit" ... does it make sense to present a bunch of people looking at a Laptop, saying something like "Whooo first 4G - we made it"? Not even the screen was shown, nor the UE. This gives more doubts than proofs to the audience. True E2E demos we have seen more than enough from many big suppliers. What exactly is "commercial" in your scenario? For sure it was a SDR base station, hahaha.

Hi Paul
You are perfectly right, It doesn't proof anything and would have been so easy to fake. But the reason for doing this was not to proof anything, more just the fun of being first in the world to actually upload something to youtube over 4G. And I can assure you it was 100% for real, but if you want real proof I welcome you to Oslo :-)

Hi Niclas,
thanks for clarification and offering - it´s fine with me. Claims being first are always popular and fun.
Still I wonder how/if you actually uploaded a video to YouTube while acually filming it. It was a stream, right :-)

We used a standard DV recorder and uploaded the clip a minute or two after the shooting. We thought about using a webcam connected to the PC and upload live but decided to go for the solution with higher quality.
