Practice, practice, practice. Listen, analyze, learn. Know your theory, get your hands of others' arrangements, and learn from their accomplishments and failures. Surround yourself with music, and stay motivated.

One of my favorite holiday movies of all time. This song is absolutely fantastic. I actually got to go to a Danny Elfman panel at Comic-Con 2010. He is an incredibly modest man, and has some absolutely awesome stories from throughout his career as well :)
