From Kate's 2001 album, Little Lights

Lyrics;
This cruel country has driven me down
Teased me and lied, teased me and lied
I've only sad stories to tell to this town
My dreams have withered and died

Once I was bending the tops of the trees
Kind words in my ears and kind faces to see
Then I struck up with a boy from the west
They'd run and hide, they'd run and hide
Count one to ten and he's gone with the rest
My dreams have withered and died

Silver moon sailor and silver moonshine
On the water so wide, the water so wide
Steal from the bed of some good friend of mine
My dreams have withered and died

If I was a butterfly I'd live for a day
I would be free just blowing away
This cruel country has driven me down
Teased me and lied, teased me and lied
I've only sad stories to tell to this town
My dreams have withered and died

  • There's no song quite like a Richard Thompson song. She made a good choice, and delivers it with plaintive simplicity. Nice job.

  • Had Richard and Linda's I want to see the bright lights tonight, on which this figured, lost it but had this song going round my head for 30 years. Now this... WOW.

  • nice

  • @route66ie This song was written by Richard Thompson and sung with Linda thompson, devine, love this version too, brilliant

  • beautiful.

  • love eddie readers harmonizing on this as well ..... completely amazing

  • Justin Beiber??

  • Could you put The White Cockade up please too? :)

  • @browniecrumz99 She may or may not be, I don't know. But since she sings old folk songs I'd say it probably has more to do with the fact that old folk songs are from the perspective of both men and women than it has to do with whether she's straight, bi, or a lesbian.

    Just a guess though.

  • @browniecrumz99 why is there thumbs down its just a question, wouldnt matter if she had been any of those shes a great singer...

  • @sheddybong thank you. ;) i was just gettin into her songs then.
