I always see Richie Hayward and Levon Helm as like the Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa of Rock N' Roll. They play the hell out of the skins, but know what to do to keep a groove.

Richie's spirit and genius will live on forever, in the hearts (and speakers) of his fans. I first heard 'Time Loves a Hero' when I was about 15. I remember thinking, that's the wickedest groove, just had to find the entire Feat catalogue. Only recently have I discovered the prolific nature of his work, and have begun to track down all the other albums Richie played on.
Like Zappa, I believe Richie left us too soon, and had so much more to do.
Life is harsh. But we'll always have the music.
