Just not true, for all the reason's Doinghisbest outlines above. Brilliant performances from a fantastic cast. Won't deny that some of Greenaway's other work leaves me a little cold - struggled with Prospero's Books, for sure - but this is a barnstormer.

I beg to differ. BRILLIANT cinematography, BRILLIANT film - plus brilliant set design, costumes, music, and ensemble acting. A real treat!
I saw this at the cinema when it was first released. I'll never forget the continual gasps of disgust and horror from certain members of the audience, a few of whom walked out. At least one person didn't make it past the infamous 'eating dog shit' scene at the start!
As for me, I was blown away by it! Fantastic movie.
