Perhaps the most misunderstood creature, very gentle and docile by nature. They only act mean in their defense mode, given the chance, they will flee. Excellent at killing mice, snakes, and other pest. They are good for the environment and should not be feared and do not carry rabies.

  • Father gots one trapped in a cage right now and don't know what to do with it... shoot it, call animal control, and my idea is to release it somewhere but fathers can be stubborn.

  • @spaceorbison I hope he doesn't destroy it, they are very useful around the house as they will eat mice and snakes, they do not tear up things like raccoons, so if at all possible, please have him release it. Good luck.

  • @cudaviper the problem is that he think the possum itself is the problem. If you call the city do they destroy them?

  • @spaceorbison

Can't answer that but if you call them, just ask. Another thing may be to look wildlife rehab places in the area. If not, I would take it to a remote area and let it go. Any kind of woods will do. Just be calm about it, they look and act mean but it is a defense mode they are in. Given the chance they WILL run away from you not towards you. Best of luck, let me know..K.

  • @cudaviper Yeah apparently animal control was called and everyone was out of the house so they just removed it from the trap and took it. If it was up to me I would have taken it and released it in the woods. I love animals. I once returned a kitten that wandered into my yard with collar information. Somehow this kitten got into my backyard nearly a mile away and I had a pitbull back there. When I rang the doorbell the lady and her two kids came out and they were very happy to have it back.

Probably released it as having to destroy would involve paper work plus proper disposal of the body. A lot easier to just release, plus better for the environment. Thank for letting me know. Yes people should have an ID on their animals just in case. Regards.
