  • I love the idea of altering the sweatshirt, but as a tall woman, I've never found one too long (usually too short), but love the idea of borrowing part of the shirt to use in other areas (sleeves always too short as well). I haven't ever seen a good tutorial on how to make sleeves longer, without looking bad. Any suggestions? Also, I would never want a vent up the back or across the front but would love to do them at the side seams. Any suggestions there? Thanks for posting this video.

To add length to the sleeves and body I would recommend using the Calico Country Sweatshirt technique that Mary Mulari demonstrates in Expressive Sweatshirts shown on the youtube demo. As you mentioned, the idea of borrowing part of a shirt to add length is a great idea.

In Expressive Sweatshirts book and DVD Mary shows three techniques for adding vents to a sweatshirt. They can be placed at the side/hem or sleeves, where ever you would like.

  • @NancysNotions Thanks for offering us this glimpse of what's on the video. I have lived with shorter than desirable sleeves too long (no pun intended). All of my family complains of this as well. I am thinking I could introduce a contrasting horizontal stripe on the sleeves of casual tops. I have always worried about puckering along that seam, especially since the fabrics won't be from the same source (weight, content, etc). I've always enjoyed "sewing with Nancy", youtube =convenience.
