I have been playing golf for many years, to a 4 handicap. This video is the first to give me the 'Aha' moment. The width of his stance allows for the leg drive, sliding his rear leg to his front leg, which due to the width is very stable.
A wonderful picture of great 'legwork', which most golfers lack.
It was at the Milwaukee Open of 1971 or so when I followed Knudson around as he shot 67 to close in on the leaders. He cooly hit a 4 iron within 2 feet on a par 5 early in the round. On the green I awaited his approach; he came in, cooly walked up, made a brief comment about hitting it close. Then tapped in. That was Knudson. Cool, calm, class. With a swing that was more than Hoganesque; it was timeless.
gives me goosebumps. i watched george knudson for the first time at the 1970 US Open at Hazeltime. I was a freckle faced 19 year old kid with my older brother. We ran up the path to the clubhouse yelling, "Crawford's even" and had our enthusiasm dashed by an older snot who retorted, "tha's put him about 5 shots behind the winner." but my enthusiasm for golf was resounding when I saw George Knudson stride down the fairways, cool and effervescent, and then I saw him hit a golf ball. What class.

Thank you so much for this. Knudson is my favourite. His demanour and swing is pure class.
