My Doberman Kola, Obedience Demo Intermediate & the start of advanced training levels. This dog is trained with patience, consistancy, correction and praise. praise comes to the dog in the form of verbal, physical (touch or pat) food or body language. Correction is delivered to the dog through verbal, physical (i.e. gently repositioning the dog) and through a "pop" on the lead as a last resort for commands the dog knows and is not obeying. "punishment fits the crime" and training is always ended on a positive and happy note.

  • i would love to train a doberman like that (if i ever get one)

is there a way I can train the dog myself without a trainer? I know it'll be hard but I'll be willing to try very very hard to do so

  • @RBNightlinger I agree. I have two dobies and I can't imagine what would happen if I didn't use some form of negative correction on them. They HAVE to know who is dominant otherwise they will take on that role. The idea that only positive reinforcement is necessary or suggested is a woman's mentality. You ever watch Ceaser? He has plenty of negative reinforcement. The feminization of our country will be our downfall.

  • I get so tired of those who try to push 'positive only' training on all dogs, as if they all fit into some sort of cookie-cutter mentality. Correction, in one form or another, is necessary... especially for working breeds.

I'd put my GSD on a stay on one side of the local river, then ford the stream and call her. When she was halfway across, I'd give her a down command. She'd freeze and float downstream until I called her again. THAT was a happy, obedient dog!

  • whats the name of the song used?

  • Good display of obedience, and a beautiful dog. Kudos!

  • I MUST know how to train a dog to stop and go with just a foot action, I've never heard of it before and that's just amazing. I'm very adamant and passionate in studying to become a professional dog trainer.
