  • I work in drug discovery, and animal models are crucial because they help researchers develop medical breakthroughs that can potentially go on to save millions of lives.

    You could try asking them this:

    "Can you objectively prove that it's a good idea to not do something extremely benefitial just because it's not ethical? Is it more "ethical" to benefit animals than to benefit human beings? Would you then forego treatments for bacterial infections just because it's more "ethical" to keep the bacteria alive?"

  • I've been given the task of justifying harm that comes to animals in the event that tests conducted help humanity through medical science in heated debate at my college. So far, it's very difficult because of such strong emotions from the opposition, and rightfully so. This will help...to a degree. I see both sides to a story, gathering as much information from either side and analyze differences in opinion.
