True punk is dead, the new stuff that's out is only a shell of what was... its only music and clothes and piercings now. No substance. No politico. No thought. No action. We were more than haircuts and leather. We were more than nipple cuffs and black nail polish. We were fighting for something. So-called punks today are the posers we use to beat the crap out of - and old punks are dying off, fading away, forgetting it all for the comforts of suburban life. So pathetic....
-
@kenhenburn Also, I'm fifteen and I love the Clash.
-
@kenhenburn Billie Joe has Punk inspiration, but he actually denies that he's in a punk band. Their older stuff is actually more representative of rock, than pop. Actually the reason they seem like "Commercial sell-outs" is probably because he and his wife own a record label. Unfortunately "Corporate sell-outs" is the demographic for young people these days and the best way to sell is to get kids involved. Shame but true.
-
@kenhenburn Bille Joe actually said thet they weren't punk, it's the fanbase and media that has called them punk. His biggest inspirations were different punk bands though.
-
@kenhenburn I do agree, i was listening to green day since i was like seven and i have grown to love them. I wouldn't dare call them punk, but you gotta understand thats what their FANS labeled them as, not them. Yet, i started listening to the clash last year and like them ALOT better than green day.

@xAxiom720x Socialists not Communists
-
@MsPsycho29 I think your right he was on the left back then in opposition to Thatcher England and Reagan America, if he were around he'd be a libertarian
-
@xAxiom720x I still love their music though I wonder if they truly knew what they were talking about seeking communism?
Green Day has nothing to do with 'punk'. Anyone that was around when the Clash were still together, knows this. GD are huge commercial sell-outs, there is nothing political about them. GD is NOT a 'great' band and their lyrics are aimed at little kiddies. That being said, GD is a 3rd or 4th generation 'pop' band that does write decent, catchy little pop tunes, but in no way can they be mentioned in the same breath as the Clash. I bet you were not around when the original Clash were...right?
