Google Earth better than Earthscape in my opinion because of Google Earth's better use of accelerometer and touch screen.

No. You would have to have all of that data stored on your ipod :) That would be cool though!

But does it actually start up?

Because PC Google Earth, for example, starts up and loads the basic country data, even if you aren't connected to the internet.

No.  It won't start up. I don't think any data like that is saved on the touch at all.
