Max Baer made good his boasts when he defeated Primo Carnera, and so became heavyweight boxing champion of the world, at Long Island, New York, last night.
After one of the most amazing contests in the history of the ring, he gained the decision in the eleventh round on a technical knockout, the referee intervening after Carnera had been knocked down.
Throughout the contest Baer laughed and taunted his rival, whom he knocked down ten times. Carnera damaged his ankle early in the fight.

  • bert sugar has a big mouth for someone who has never stepped foot in a ring

  • There is no doubt that Bear had superior boxing skills, but you cannot judge without having watched the all match. It is a fact that Carnera fought for 11 rounds with a broken ankle, and did what every good fighter would have done, standing up until its last drop of energy was. Probably Carnera was completely DAZED, but had a lot of strength, so he stood up many times. This 2:39 seconds video instead is edited in way that makes the match looks as a constant fall.

  • this is how you should figfht wladimir klitschko you have to be all over him and i think baer would of beat wlad

  • @ufo5440 oh wait the movie is called "Carnera: the walking mountain"

  • Hmm, according to the movie I just watched on Netflix "Primo Carnera" Max gave Primo much needed respect after there fight and said that Carnera was the best he ever fought! So which is it? did he still call him a bum AFTER the fight too?

  • Baer was a Jew fag.

  • @sonofaballer96 obviously dude but mike tyson was born in a different era and had much more modern training ! Comparing to people from a different era is just wrong lol

  • @mantle64 He is only top 20 in my book and in the ring magazine. Mostly known for biting off someones ear and being so dominant. He was still a top contender filling up rooms when he lost and he gained the title again when he was still young. Mike didn't ever get up to win a fight though and only lost when he was 220 or more except for against Tucker

  • @sonofaballer96 Baer fought during a weak era (post Dempsey-Tunney, pre Louis), but so did Tyson. It was shameful to lose too Douglas, because Tyson was only 23 years old and Douglas was - a bum. The Tyson of '86-'90 was on his way to maybe being the all time great, but post Douglas he was a flop. Tyson was better than Baer, but is no way one of the top 10 heavyweights.

  • @mantle64 Douglas was better than some of the people who beat Baer and Tyson has less losses than Baer. There was really no shame in losing to Douglas it was just upsetting because people forgot he's just like any man when it all boils down but you never disagreed with me.

  • @sonofaballer96 Buster Douglas whipped Tyson's butt.
