This video is some sequences of me making a spoon of birch. It is a few years old. It shows some of the elements in the making of a spoon, but not all I´m afraid. It has some starwars-transitions also. I use one of my favourite tools here, a carving loop with a strap around the neck. It is called a lapp-tool in a direct translation. The tool is associated with the sami craft - duodji and is very good for carving cups and large spoons with.

  • thats what i call a spoon 5/5

  • lovely work Niklas, very interesting to see the carving loop in use

  • dull axe

  • I just finished producing a how-to DVD called Making Wooden Spoons that shows the step by step process of making wooden spoons in a wood shop with standard power tools – no lathing or hand carving required. It is available at Amazon.com by searching "Making Wooden Spoons DVD"

  • @touchnova oh i never thought of those spoons, haha. i guess its plates that are bad, if you are in a kitchen, where you are going to clean it on a regular basis, then i guess theyre ok. but in the wilderness, or camping, i dont think i would use one.

youre right, unless you dont clean regularly, it should be ok, but i still prefer stainless steel for MY spoons (im an aficionado, what can i say ;) )

  • @Dmajorproductions But don't people cook with and utilize wooden spoons every day? My dear ol' ma probably has 25 wooden utensils in her kitchen right now that she uses regularly (is a retired chef). Makes sense about bacteria and such, I would think that's just an issue if you fail to clean things properly, no?

  • wow, thats incredible, ur axe work is the best i have seen!

  • yea the food scraps, they say thats how atilla the hun died.

  • Real handwork, like that a lot man. Thx for subbing btw.

  • Could you clarify? Do you mean the toxicity of some woods (Taxus/Yew) or that foodscraps will get stuck in the fibers?
