I'm a slide player myself and actually you are quite wrong. Many artist play slide in DADDAD tunning.

take what u said is an Open E tuning, take each string down a whole step and you get.... Open D!

You guys are all wrong!!! There is no such tuning as DADDAD!! Maybe DADGAD. He's actually in the open key of E. EBEG#BE. Take it from a slide player! This is the tuning you would want to use for this tune.
